Restaurants and hotels serving good food to suit all tastes can
be found in Auchencairn, Balcary Bay, in nearby Castle Douglas and
Kirkcudbright. We have a wide selection of menus available in our
reception area.
Fishing
The Solway Coast is an excellent spot for sea fishing enthusiasts
who can expect to catch, mackerel, cod, pollock, dogfish and skate.
Around and about there are many lochs, one of which is Loch Ken
being renowned for its large pike and only a short drive away! Southern
Scotland is an excellent place if you intend to catch salmon or
trout from the many rivers, we will be happy to point you in the
right direction.
Cycling
Dumfries & Galloway is the home of cycling! The region
has lots of quiet country roads. Dumfries & Galloway is also
home to five of the 7stanes world class mountain bike centres. More

Golf
Many fine courses are within easy drive of Balcary Mews,
courses are located in Castle Douglas, Gatehouse, Dumfries Thornhill,
Kirkcudbright, New Galloway and Dalbeattie to name but a few. If
you are prepared to drive just a little further you will find the
Ayrshire coastal resorts, including Turnberry and Royal Troon. For

Bird
Watching
Dumfries and Galloway boasts some of the most spectacular
views and scenery, from the magnificent scenery & wildlife of
the Solway Coast to the Galloway Forest Park and the Galloway Hills.
These areas are home to red and roe deer, otter, badger, arctic
hare; birds of prey include Golden Eagle, Peregrine, Merlin, Hen
Harriers, Goshawk and Red Kite. Several species of Wild Geese including
Ospreys can be seen migrating at the RSPB reserve at Ken-Dee Marshes.
A day can be easily spent with the camera or just looking.
